Who will be the Democratic nominee in 2008?

I'm not including Dean since it looks like he's going to be the DNC chair.  That also eliminates Kerry from the field and I'm convinced that Hillary won't be running either.

what's the purpose of this thread? (none / 0)

Everytime I see these discussions I get a little perturbed that there's plenty of stuff between now and then, like fighting to save Social Security, the Iraq War and the 2006 elections.

What are you trying to achieve with this diary?

Does every diary have to try and achieve something?  What happened to good old fun debate?  Someone is asking an opinion with a pretty clear topic.  If you don't like the topic, don't read it.  It's the same argument we have used with the Right-wing censor nazis for years.

I see the purpose of MyDD as being a place for the people that are more serious about politics. This stuff is for the amusement of the lightweights.

Well since you don't own the site, thanks for your opinion and please don't read the diaries that you think are too "lightweight" for you.

I was hoping to get away from the kind of heckling
that you see on dailykos.

Please go back where you came from, Carl.

A reality check of sorts for me. (none / 0)

Until the field is complete I continue to wonder if our party and Democrats in general has become about winning and not about ideliastic suicide.  In other words I wonder if we'll remember that no matter the candidate a Senator will not likely overcome his voitng record in the current environment being dominated by the conservative media.  If we'll realize that the top of the ticket must be from the south in order for us to make them contest the southern states.  If we'll get that we are in a lifelong "war on terror" and with the GOP being the party of national security/defense our best hope is nominating a candidate who can counter that with REAL national security credentials.

In short I'm curious if people get it that Gen. Clark is the surest path to victory in 2008 just as he was in 2004.  Judging by the poll I shouldn't be nervous at all.

The next presidential candidate? Dean, of course! (none / 0)

There will be a massive groundswell which will force Governor Howard Dean to resign as DNC chair and run for President.  Why? Because the rottenness and duplicity of the current administration will be in full display, and Dean will be one of the very few Democrats to actively oppose the deceit, and fight it tooth and nail, while many other prominent Dems will prevaricate.

Re: The next presidential candidate? (none / 0)

Not a chance.  If Dean is DNC, he is not a candidate.  Would cause too many problems.  If you like Dean, then I would turn my sights to Feingold as both have a pretty populist message.  The Clintonistas int he group would be wise to look at Warner or Clark.  I think Warner, Clark, Edwards and Feingold (and maybe Hillary) are going to be your big 4 until Iowa trims the field.

Nix Dean (none / 0)

Not any more.  I wore a Dean for America sweatshirt when I voted in the primary.
I'm not happy with his semi-secretly funding a forum to get himself the chairmanship.

Re: God willing (none / 0)

Big problem is, if McCain is the nominee, I don't know if anyone can beat him unless some very juicy info comes out about him.  Too bad he has party loyalty.  Had he switched to Dems in 2000, he would be president today.

Re: God willing (none / 0)

Mcain will never wint the nomination for the Republican party. I think it could be Frist, Romney, Allen or Pawlenty getting the nom.
