The True Story Of Jesse Helms That No One Believes

What I am getting ready to tell you is a true story about my run-in with then Senator Jesse Helms.

I used to have a film production office in Raleigh, North Carolina - two careers ago. I had the top corner office and the exact opposite corner of the building was Senator Helms' reelection campaign HQ. I never went in, but I did walk by a few times and it was just a few people at their desks typing and making phone calls.

One day I was heading to the restroom and entered a stall. No, there were no hand gestures.

A few seconds later Jesse Helms came in - his voice was very recognizable. Jesse entered the stall next to me and took a massive, juicy, explosive dump.

Now, this should be a common tale but here is where it gets damn odd. While Jesse was evacuation his lower bowls with the robustness of a timpani drum, he was singing "What A Friend I Have In Jesus."

Mouth agape, I couldn't pry my ears away from the horror of it all. The cacophony was something to witness with the cool help of Kentucky bourbon. But unfortunately, I was stone cold sober.

Oh come on.... (2.00 / 3)

True or no....is this really necessary?

Surely you can find a better way to celebrate Independence Day?

No offense, but this is a story I didn't need to know.

One of the strangest diaries (2.00 / 2)

I've ever read... good lord. I could have happily lived my whole life without finding out about this incident -- true or not.

Even John McCain lusts after teh engels.

The man is dead.

Have you no shame?

I'm for a timeline on Iraq, public funding of elections, women's reproductive rights, gun restrictions and universal suffrage. So why should I vote for Obama?

dumb diary - that's a given.

But please don't try to lecture on having 'shame'?!

Helm's helped hasten thousands upon thousands to their early death by his homophobic vitriol in the 80s-90s. His death doesn't make any rejoicing about it shameful!

pfft.  I had to grit my teeth and pretend to care about Ford and Reagan when they bit it.  For a grade-A asshole like Helms, I couldn't give a shit.

Caring isnt the issue.  Watching people speak ill of the just-dead always gives me the willies.

Re: The True Story Of Jesse Helms That ... (none / 0)

Well, you could have just said "Jesse was a nasty old fart".

Nevermind.

Hell's bells, even the GOP didn't have to crucify Eisenhower's record in order to make Reagan their 'saint'. We can have two great ones, you know?
